Barcelona are once again looking to raise funds.

The cash-strapped Catalans are set for a big summer, though likely one largely marked by departures. FootballTransfers understands that if president Joan Laporta wants to have any hope of keeping head coach Xavi beyond this season, he will need to bring in some major signings somehow.

In order to be able to do this, players will need to be sold and there are several high-profile candidates who could depart. In fact, there are so many it was tough to whittle this list down to just five. The likes of Frenkie de Jong and Jules Kounde, for example, have been heavily linked with an exit, but given their importance to the Blaugrana, it would require some massive offers to prise them away, hence why they are not included here.

There are a fair few more realistic potential sales than the above-mentioned two, so here are five players who could leave Barcelona this summer.

Oriol Romeu (32, defensive midfielder)

A stopgap, bargain solution to the massive hole left by club legend Sergio Busquets, former Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu is expected to depart Barcelona this summer, though he could stay in Catalunya.

The Blaugrana signed him from Catalan surprise packages Girona last summer and Romeu has been linked with a return for months. The Spaniard has failed to impress in his short time at Barcelona and his career at the very highest level appears all but over.

Inigo Martinez (32, centre-back)

Similarly to Romeu, Inigo Martinez was a bargain pick-up in the summer of 2023 but one that ultimately failed to have any kind of impact. The veteran centre-back arrived from Athletic Club for free, but he has hardly featured.

It has been claimed that Barcelona will actively help Martinez find a new club, which indicates that they could even be open to terminating his contract prematurely. Martinez’s current deal runs until 2025, but it would be a surprise if he were to remain in Catalunya beyond 2024.

Ansu Fati (21, winger)

One of the many promising youngsters once dubbed the ‘next Lionel Messi,’ erstwhile wonderkid Ansu Fati will likely be turned into cash this summer. The 21-year-old spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Brighton but only rarely impressed, not least because his persistent injury problems reared their ugly head again.

Fati was already linked with a permanent departure in the summer of 2023 but Barcelona ultimately decided that they would prefer to give him a chance to prove himself out on loan. However, it seems that the club hierarchy’s patience has run out and this wasted, injury-ravaged talent appears to be on the way out.

Raphinha (27, winger)

From one winger who has failed to impress to another, Raphinha has been a fairly underwhelming signing for the Blaugrana. To be sure, he showed how devastating he can be in the Champions League against PSG, but his production has simply not been consistently to the standard required from a Barcelona attacker.

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League for well over a year and it could finally materialise this summer. The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have all been linked with the former Leeds star in recent months.

Mika Faye (19, centre-back)

Finally, there is the curious case of Mika Faye. A senior Senegal international before becoming a Barcelona first-teamer, the centre-back has no shortage of suitors around Europe and could be cashed in upon in the summer.

The youngster’s rise to prominence has been spectacular. In the space of a little over a year, Faye could go from the Croatian lower leagues to the Premier League via Barcelona – despite not even playing a role in the Blaugrana first team. Man Utd, Tottenham and Arsenal have been associated with the wonderkid.
