Florian Wirtz’s transfer plans clarified as Liverpool & Real Madrid circle

Florian Wirtz would like to join Bayern Munich as a stepping stone before heading abroad, according to German media.

The Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid has been the subject of intense transfer speculation for months. His incredible form in Bayer 04‘s title-winning season has naturally attracted the attention of Europe’s elite.

Wirtz has demolished the Bundesliga this term, notching 17 goals and 19 assists across all competitions and playing a massive role in Leverkusen’s stunning success. It has been known for some time, however, that the youngster will remain with his current side for at least another season.

His father and agent recently confirmed as much and the fact that Xabi Alonso is also set to remain with the club made this decision all the more straightforward. Nevertheless, plans are already being put in place regarding the youngster’s future after 2024.

Wirtz to Bayern?

According to Sky Germany, Wirtz will continue to be monitored by clubs like Liverpool, Man City and Real Madrid with a view to potentially pouncing in 2025. However, it is claimed that the youngster and his family would prefer a move to Bayern Munich as an ‘intermediate step’ before heading to an elite club abroad.

Bayern, of course, are also interested in signing the 20-year-old, but the question is whether they can afford him. They showed that they have the means to pay €100 million for a player with the acquisition of Harry Kane.

However, honorary president Uli Hoeneß has admitted that this is not something they can do every season, nor is it set in stone yet that Wirtz will ‘only’ cost €100m.

Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro recently put a €150m price tag on his head before later retracting his statement, saying that he made a ‘mistake’ and insisting that the youngster is not on the market. Speculation surrounding the youngster’s future is unlikely to go away anytime soon.
