Gareth Southgate is to publish a new book.

Mail Sport understands a deal has been agreed with a publisher and an announcement is due shortly.

The book is not thought to be a warts-and-all journey through Southgate’s time as England manager.

Instead, it is likely to take the form of a guide to leadership – with Southgate likely to share lessons he picked up from guiding the Three Lions to two major finals for the first time since 1966.

Southgate has represented his country on 159 occasions, with 102 of those coming in the dugout and the other 57 wearing the Three Lions shirt.

For his services to football Southgate was knighted in the New Years honours list, and has recently taken up the a role as visiting lecturer at Harvard Business School.

‘After stepping down as England manager following eight very special years, I’ve been reflecting on what I have lived through and what comes next,’ the former England boss said.

‘Coaching top players and playing against some of the best teams in the world pushed me to operate at the highest level in football.

‘Rather than write a memoir of those times I decided to share my experiences in a different way, through the lens of leadership which I hope will provide lessons for anyone who wants to discover their own authentic leadership style.’

Publishing director Ben Brusey added: ‘Just as Gareth inspired the nation with his England leadership, every page of his book will inspire readers with his characteristic sense of purpose, honesty, resilience and integrity.

‘This will be a landmark leadership book, which I know will be enjoyed by readers for years to come.’
