George Baldock‘s family are facing fresh heartache following the former footballer’s tragic death last month at the age of 31.

Baldock was found dead in the swimming pool at his home in Athens on October 9, having moved to Greece to join Panathinaikos in the summer.

He was survived by his fiancée, Annabel Dignam, and their one-year-old son, Brody. A post-mortem is currently taking place to determine his cause of death.

However, a medical expert has revealed the histology and toxicology results are unlikely to be ready until 2025, meaning Baldock’s family face a lengthy wait for answers on how he passed away.

Dr Grigoris Leon, of the Hellenic Society of Forensic Medicine, said: ‘The release of official findings could take months.

‘The cause of his death is very likely to have been pathological and related to the heart.’

Baldock, who spent seven years at Sheffield United between 2017 and 2024, was repatriated to the UK for his funeral on October 28, which was attended by his former team-mate and close friend Dele Alli.

Alli branded Baldock his ‘brother’ in a touching Instagram post shortly after the defender’s death.

Fellow England internationals Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell along with Sheffield United, Panathinaikos and another of his old clubs MK Dons have also paid emotional tributes to Baldock in recent weeks.
