A 1-3 loss against VfL Bochum on Saturday afternoon pushed VfL Wolfsburg’s away record this year to an atrocious one win and six losses away from the Volkswagen Arena. The latest lackluster performance on the road didn’t escape the ire of VfL substitute Yannick Gerhardt, who was one of the few Autostadt actors intent on playing right up until the full-time whistle.

“We were the better team in footballing terms,” Gerhardt lamented to the Sky microphones afterward, “But in football, especially amid this [Vonovia Ruhrstadion] crowd, it’s the tackles that count. We let them get the better of us, especially in the first half. We’re not at the stage yet in which we can supply quality football over the course of 90 minutes. That’s why its important to get the tackles right from the very beginning.”

“It’s been a disaster away from home this year,” Gerhardt continued, “I feel sorry for the fans who have travelled with us. They come along and cheer us on and we let the opponent get the better of us no matter where we play. We have to work on that as quickly as possible. We need to start waking up. We need 90 minutes of consistent football and points.”
