Getafe boss reveals their chances of keeping Mason Greenwood at the end of the season… as the Spaniards are pleased with the forward’s performances AND his behaviour

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has said it will be Manchester United who have the final say over Mason Greenwood‘s future. 

Bordalas said he was very happy with Greenwood’s performance, with the United loanee scoring eight goals in 27 games for the Spanish outfit this season.

Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 after being charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault causing bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges in February last year and announced the case had been discontinued. 

Greenwood, who denied all the allegations, joined Getafe on loan in a controversial move in September after his parent club indicated he would ‘continue his career away from Old Trafford’.

Getafe are open to a transfer or another loan,

But Bordalas conceded the ultimate decision regarding the striker’s future lies with his parent club.

‘In the end his club decides and also the boy’s intentions regarding his future count,’ he said.

‘But I can say we are happy with his behaviour and his performance.’

Reports suggest that United want £40m for the striker, despite the fact that he will have just one year left on his Red Devils deal at the end of this season. 

European heavyweights such as Barcelona and Juventus have shown interest in acquiring Greenwood. 

Towards the end of December, reports suggested suggested the LaLiga giants were weighing up a move for the United exile.

With regards to on the field matters, United have strongly suggested Greenwood would never play for them again.

However, speaking for the first time since his 25 per cent stake in Manchester United was ratified, Ratcliffe in February suggested the stance could change.

‘It’s a fresh decision,’ he said.

‘I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forwards. 

‘You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have. 

‘What we need to do when have issues like that is understand real affects not the hype then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. 

‘That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it.’

Ratcliffe also told the BBC: ‘We need to look at facts, judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are. 

‘Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.’ 

United acted swiftly to suspend Greenwood on the day he was arrested in January 2022, just hours after deeply disturbing images and audio were posted online. 

As reported by Mail Sport, the club were then surprised when the CPS dropped the charges a year later.
