Christian Günter doesn’t hold back in his criticism of the penalty Bayern Munich were awarded against Freiburg.
Bayern Munich beat Freiburg 2-0 on Sunday and broke the deadlock through Harry Kane from the penalty spot in the 35th minute.
After Harry Kane’s close-range header struck the arm of Max Rosenfelder, referee Christian Dingert initially whistled for a corner kick, but then went to the review area with the help of the video assistant referee and changed his decision.
Freiburg captain Christian Günter was less than impressed with the decision, which he blasted in a post-match interview.
“It was a really crazy penalty,” Günter fumed.
“One thing is that it’s probably 50 centimeters, the other thing is that when you make a move, when you jump, your arms naturally go up a bit.
“Rose [Rosenfelder, editor’s note] goes into the guy, has his arm behind his body. So if that’s a handball, then I’d rather stop playing football, because that’s really such nonsense. I really don’t understand it.
“Maybe the DFB [German Football Association, editor’s note] should run a course on how to jump without arms. I think that would be a good idea.”
