Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been labelled as a ‘disgrace’ by Aaron Ramsdale’s dad for ‘laughing’ at the Arsenal star.
The England international was dropped to the bench for Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham with David Raya once again favoured by Mikel Arteta.
It is the third game in a row in all competitions that Ramsdale has sat out, though he is refusing to make a fuss and is fully behind loan arrival Raya.
That was shown in the first half of the Gunners‘ 2-2 draw, as he applauded the Spaniard’s stunning save to deny Brennan Johnson from close range.
Cameras cut to Ramsdale on the bench, with the ex-Sheffield United star smiling in amazement as he clapped his hands.
But speaking in his Sky Sports analysis following the four-goal thriller, Carragher stated he believes his reaction was all for show.
He said: “I thought it was like the Oscars, you know when someone loses the Oscar and they start clapping and smiling for the other person.
“I was laughing when I saw that. He’s absolutely devastated with that really.”
Ramsdale’s dad snapped back at Carragher on X, formerly known as Twitter, as he posted: “You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has.”
And he then turned his attention to Manchester City fan and YouTuber Lawrence Bury, who claimed it was ’embarrassing from Ramsdale’ after sharing the same clip of his son.
Firing an X-rated one-word reply, Nick simply stated: “D***.”
Ramsdale is likely to be recalled to the Arsenal line-up for the club’s Carabao Cup third round clash away at Brentford on Wednesday night.
But Carragher believes that Ramsdale will be seeking a January exit if he continues to find himself out of the starting XI.
He remarked: “I think he will be [leaving in January], if he got an opportunity at a decent club and Arsenal were happy with that.
“I think Arsenal will be looking at it and thinking they could get a few quid for him.
“You never have two goalkeepers at the same level at a club, especially top ‘keepers.
“Normally when that happens, it is because they are both not good enough and you can’t decide who you should be picking.”
