Jordan Henderson is starting to find his feet at Ajax but continues to be linked with a move away from Amsterdam.

The midfielder made the switch from Al-Ittihad to the Eredivsie club last winter, but needed time to make his mark on the giants’ game.

Meanwhile, Henderson was linked to a return to his old love Sunderland in England. However, the Black Cats are not the only option. According to Barry Ferguson, Henderson could be an excellent addition to Rangers.

“I think Henderson would fit in perfectly here,” the former Gers captain told Record Sport .

Ferguson, a 46-time Scotland international, played 408 games for Rangers and won the league title with the club on multiple occasions.

The former midfielder knows what he is talking about and thinks that Henderson could be of great value to the current team with his experience: “I think with his experience he can make other players better.”

Rangers are having a disappointing season in the Scottish league, where the club has collected only 19 points after 10 games under the guidance of manager Philippe Clement, who is under increasing pressure after a 2-1 loss to Aberdeen in midweek.

The Ibrox side are in a worrying position, especially as the gap to rivals Celtic has now increased to nine points. With a much-strengthened squad at the start of the season, expectations were high, but the inconsistent performances on the pitch have led to frustration within and outside the team.

Ferguson believes things need to improve quickly.

“The fans expect to see more,” Ferguson said. “There’s been a big rebuild. A lot of players left in the summer, including some very experienced players. The club also had to reduce the wage bill because it was too high. Rangers have brought in a lot of new players, and it takes a while for them to adjust. But we’re three months into the season now.”

Rangers face Motherwell in a League Cup semi-final this weekend, and defeat in that encounter will send the club into a deeper crisis ahead of a midweek clash with Olympiacos in the Europa League.
