Kahn slams Bayern and Hoeneß over handling of Müller’s future

Oliver Kahn has voiced strong criticism of how Bayern Munich have handled Thomas Müller’s contract situation, taking a veiled swipe at supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß.

Bayern Munich recently announced that Thomas Müller will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer after 25 years at the club.

According to former Bayern goalkeeper and CEO Oliver Kahn, the club’s communication regarding Thomas Müller’s future has been poorly managed, leading to significant confusion and inconsistency.

“I think the club has missed a great opportunity here,” Kahn told Bild’s Bayern-Insider podcast.

“Twenty-five years at Bayern – you’d expect the club to handle that appropriately.

“It was very unfortunate, very regrettable on the club’s part.”

Kahn was especially critical of Uli Hoeneß’s role, indicating that the 73-year-old continues to wield influence far beyond his official position on the supervisory board.

“Uli always feels the need to tell people what to do and what not to do. That’s just how he sees himself,” Kahn remarked.

According to Kahn, the power dynamics at Säbener Straße are making things difficult for board member for sport Max Eberl.

“For someone like Max Eberl, who’s in a position of responsibility, it’s always difficult when the things you want to do are reversed or blocked by others,” he said.

“That’s the way it is in Bayern, where there are many voices. And as long as that is the case, nothing will change.”
