Bayern Munich suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat at the hands of FC Barcelona on Wednesday in a game in which Vincent Kompany’s men were punished for their defensive lapses.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, Joshua Kimmich admitted that the Bavarians deserved to lose, saying that they committed “hara-kiri” at times with their high-pressing style.

“The defeat is very clear, of course. It didn’t feel that clear in the first half, even though we didn’t come into the game well after conceding the early goal. After making it 1-1, we were fully in the game. Then we were very unlucky to concede the 2-1 goal,” Kimmich said.

He felt Fermin Lopez committed a foul when he appeared to push Kim Minjae in the back in the build-up to Barcelona’s second goal.

“You can see the arm is there. When you jump, you don’t have that much control. A little push is enough. For me, it looked like a foul,” Kimmich said.

On the whole, though, he conceded that Barcelona deserved to win the game.

“I don’t think it felt like a 4-1 defeat, but we deserved to lose,” said Kimmich.

“We had two teams playing very openly. Both teams pressed high. It was hara-kiri on our part at times.”

The defeat leaves Bayern with just three points from their first three Champions League games this season.
