Forest offered a deal worth £15million for the 25-year-old but Liverpool do not want to sell.

The understudy to Alisson Becker is highly rated by Liverpool and the Anfield club dismissed Forest’s approach out of hand.

Kelleher has proven an able stand-in for Alisson and has plenty of interest from other clubs.

Liverpool value him in excess of £20m but need the Republic of Ireland international as they chase trophies on four fronts.

Liverpool have noted that James Trafford went to Burnley from Manchester City for £19million and they consider Kelleher to be at a more advanced stage of development with greater potential, while he already has European experience and has played at full international level.

Forest have pursued a number of targets and ended up with Strasbourg’s Matz Sels who is heading for a medical now.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side also tried for Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone, Real Betis’ Rui Silva and others.
