A Liverpool supporter broke down in tears live on radio after hearing the news that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Reds manager shocked the footballing world by revealing he was calling time on his nine-year Anfield career during which time he has re-established Liverpool by winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League cup and other honours.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table and supporters want to see their legendary manager depart with a second English top-flight table to his name.

However, for one fan the news proved too much to handle as Liverpool supporter broke down on talkSPORT and burst into tears while speaking with Simon Jordan and Jim White.

Paul, 56, emotionally explained: ‘I’m absolutely devastated. It flashed up on my phone and I thought someone was joking.

‘Then I realised it was official from the club. This is such important news.

‘I was a child when Bill Shankly was our manager. Klopp became Bill No.2. There will be a statue.

‘He is everything that Liverpool Football Club stands for. He’s emotional. It’s just absolutely awful news.

‘I’m just hoping he’s not ill, we noticed he’s lost a bit of weight recently, he’s a bit thinner in the face.’

Klopp reassured Liverpool supporters that he was not leaving due to his health and instead explained his decision to leave English football was due to him ‘running out of energy’.

When Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool’s helm in 2015 there were question marks over how the German would adapt to life at one of the biggest club’s in the world.

The 56-year-old answered those questions by delivering the Champions League before going on to end Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a first Premier League crown.

The search is now on for the German’s replacement, with former Reds midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso amongst the favourites to take over.

Explaining his decision to leave Anfield, Klopp said: ‘I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

‘I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.
