Similar to Chelsea’s partnership with Starsbourg, the City Football Group also own multiple clubs across the world, including Melbourne City in Australia and New York City FC.

As a result, Girona’s incredible rise towards the top of Spanish football this season has been slightly marred given City’s link to the club, while signing Savio will only spark more controversy.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side have reached an agreement to sign him permanently, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Interestingly, although Savio is technically owned by Troyes, Romano has stated that an agreement has been reached between Man City and Girona, the club Savio is on loan at.

The transfer expert posted on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Manchester City agree deal to sign Sávio from parent club Girona in the summer.

“Documents to be signed in the next days. Despite bids from German and English clubs, Sávio will join #MCFC. He’s now 100% focused on Girona to end the season in the best way.”

Savio has five goals and seven assists in 23 league games for Girona this season as they continue to challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Spanish top flight title.

What has Savio said?

Savio, 19, recently admitted his dream of playing for Man City to Premier League Brasil (via GOAL): “I have the goal of playing for City, yes, I think that when I was hired my goal was always to get to City and I’m working towards that. But I have to keep my focus on Girona and do things well to get there.

“If one day I arrive at City, you can be sure that I did things well at Girona, as I am doing. I want to continue working here so that one day I can reach City, which is my reference point.

“[Guardiola and I] never had any contact, I only saw him up close. He hired Kayky, who was from Fluminense, Gabriel Jesus, so he seems to get along well with Brazilians. It’s letting things happen naturally so that, God willing, one day, he can train me.”
