Man United’s Women’s Champions League debut against PSG will be shown on MUTV after club admit mix-up over UEFA broadcast rights… as fans ask why historic match isn’t being played at Old Trafford

Manchester United‘s debut in the Women’s Champions League will be broadcast by the club after they incorrectly said UEFA rules prevented them from doing so.

Marc Skinner’s team play Paris Saint-Germain in the second qualifying round of the competition at Leigh Sports Village on October 10.

An article on United’s official club website publicising details of the game initially stated that ‘MUTV cannot show the game live due to UEFA’s broadcast rights.’

However, as The Athletic reported, this caused confusion among supporters who questioned why the first leg fixture couldn’t be shown on United’s in-house television station MUTV.

United realised their mistake and the article was later updated to say ‘fans can also watch the match live via MUTV in the United App.’

While DAZN have the UK broadcast rights for the group stages onwards, qualifying round coverage is at the discretion of the clubs involved.

United finished second in the Women’s Super League last season, meaning they enter the Champions League at the second qualifying round stage, one before the group phase.

Champions Chelsea earn automatic passage into the group stages. Third placed Arsenal went into the first qualifying round of the Champions League, where they were knocked out by Paris FC on penalties.

The second leg of United’s tie with PSG is scheduled for October 18.

That game will be played at the Parc des Princes and fans on social media questioned why the first leg isn’t set to be played at Old Trafford.

United’s men’s team play Brentford in a Premier League game three days before the first leg.

‘Why isn’t this being played at OT. Honestly this club is a joke. They deserve to play at OT sort this circus out will you,’ wrote one fan on X.

United’s WSL campaign begins with a visit to Aston Villa on October 1.
