The Red Devils are increasingly looking to their gold mine of a youth academy as they seek in-house solutions for problems facing the senior side. It has been a dire season for Man Utd but also a valuable one for several young players.

Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer have seen minutes under Ruben Amorim in recent weeks, and this trend is set to continue due to the club’s financial problems.

Man Utd will struggle to complete big-money signings in the summer unless they can sell several players, so they may once more have to turn to their academy.

One player who has left Amorim hugely impressed is versatile winger Bendito Mantato.

Mantato set for new deal and debut

According to AcademyScoop and since confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Amorim has earmarked the 17-year-old for a first-team debut sooner rather than later.

It is thought that the Portuguese tactician will hand Mantato his senior bow before the end of the season and, what’s more, the youngster is set to commit his long-term future to the club imminently.

Mantato is expected to put pen to paper on his first professional contract next week. He is regarded as one of the most promising players in the Red Devils’ youth setup and his ability to play at wing-back makes him attractive to Amorim.

The news of his deal is interesting in light of the fact that Man Utd have missed out to Chelsea in the race to sign Amorim’s former Sporting CP protégé Geovany Quenda.

The Portuguese youngster was one of Man Utd’s top targets heading into the summer as Amorim wanted to add another player capable of playing wing-back after bringing in Patrick Dorgu in January.

Manchester-born Mantato could prove to be Amorim’s answer to Quenda, with Man Utd successfully fighting off interest from other Premier League clubs to tie him to a new contract.
