Manchester United are planning to replace Christian Eriksen with Adam Wharton, according to a report.

The Red Devils signed Manuel Ugarte in the summer, but more midfield revamps are expected in future transfer windows. Casemiro, after staying on board this year, could yet leave the club in 2025.

Christian Eriksen, who has arguably been Man Utd’s best midfielder so far this term despite his mistake against Twente, is even more likely to depart than the Brazilian as he is out of contract next year.

This means that Man Utd will have to sign at least one new midfielder in 2025 and, according to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace youngster Adam Wharton is one of the top options on their radar.

Man Utd want Wharton

The report states that Man Utd are ready to ‘push out’ Eriksen and replace him with Wharton, whose impressive performances since joining Crystal Palace in January earned him a place in England’s squad for Euro 2024.

Eriksen had no shortage of suitors in the summer, so he will not be too distraught about leaving Old Trafford. After all, at 32, he is unlikely to be offered an extension.

Wharton, of course, won’t come cheap, which could prove to be an issue for United should they fail to qualify for the Champions League for the second season running.

Palace are under no pressure to sell the 20-year-old and will not make life easy for the Manchester giants or any other suitors, among which are also thought to be Liverpool and Man City.

However, the Selhurst Park outfit’s dismal start to the season could work in Man Utd’s favour. After a brilliant beginning to life under Oliver Glasner, Palace were supposed to push on this season, but they have yet to win a Premier League match this term.

The likes of Wharton, Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze will not be impressed with the current state of affairs and may feel that they are too good to be battling relegation.
