A sale of Theo Hernandez, potentially as early as January, should no longer be ‘taboo’ for AC Milan, according to Italian media.

The Frenchman is not having the easiest of seasons. AC Milan are struggling for consistency under new boss Paulo Fonseca and Hernandez has yet to really warm up to the coach.

As Calciomercato explains, the usually reliable left-back is currently displaying the worst version of himself and has done so for most of the season. Hernandez’s performances this term are a far cry from the impressive form he previously showed.

It is unclear what exactly is causing this. It could be his tense relationship with Fonseca, but it could also be the uncertainty surrounding his future. In the summer, Hernandez was reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ with Bayern Munich while negotiations over a new Rossoneri contract have also been looming over him for some time.

His displays are becoming a major worry and the Italian outlet argues that a potential sale of the defender can no longer be considered ‘taboo’ as far as Milan are concerned.

Hernandez available in January?

The report goes so far as to suggest that it would be ‘anything but a gamble’ if Milan were to offload Hernandez as early as January, which could pique the interest of his suitors, chief among them Man Utd.

With Alphonso Davies surprisingly closing in on extending his contract at Bayern Munich, Man Utd may shift their focus to alternative left-back targets such as Bournemouth youngster Milos Kerkez and Hernandez.

While the Frenchman’s performances will be a concern, he has shown enough in previous seasons to suggest that this is just a temporary dip in form, potentially caused by external factors.

A more serious issue regarding a potential winter move could simply be Man Utd’s lack of available funds. The Red Devils need to pay close attention to financial regulations and will have to complete lucrative sales before they can think about paying what would surely be a sizeable sum for a player like Hernandez.
