Manchester United and Lecce agree deal for Patrick Dorgu – Serie A News

Lecce star Patrick Dorgu is reportedly on the verge of joining Manchester United.

The Serie A outfit turned down several bids from United, as they were deemed insufficient.

But the latest update from reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano is that the two clubs have reached a verbal agreement for Dorgu, and he is set to become the Red Devils’ first signing of the January window.

Lecce will receive an initial €30 million transfer fee plus €5m in add-ons for the youngster.

Romano wrote on his X account: “Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United, here we go! Verbal agreement in place with Lecce, documents to be checked in next 24h.

“Fee will be €30m plus €5m in add-ons not guaranteed. Long term contract agreed days ago with the player… …and first signing for Ruben Amorim.”

Dorgu is one of the finest talents to emerge from the Serie A in the last few years.

He began his career at Nordsjaelland before joining Lecce in the summer of 2022.

The 20-year-old has since gone from strength to strength at the Stadio Via del mare, making 57 appearances across all competitions and registering five goals.

This season, the talented left-back has started 21 of the 22 Serie A matches, with four goal contributions to his name.

Dorgu is a versatile player who can perform a variety of roles for his team. He has mainly played as a right winger this campaign, but is also capable of operating as a full-back.

United boss Ruben Amorim wants Dorgu to play as a left wing-back in his 3-4-2-1 system. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been struggling with injuries, and Diogo Dalot isn’t very effective in that position.

The Red Devils have endured a frustrating 2024-25 campaign so far, languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table after winning just eight of their 23 matches.

Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag following the Dutch manager’s dismissal in October.

But the Sporting Lisbon boss is also finding it hard to revive the club’s fortunes.

Amorim will hope for an improvement in results with Dorgu set to join the team soon as United’s first January signing.
