Marseille and Nottingham Forest have both reportedly agreed loan deals with Borussia Dortmund for Gio Reyna.
Reports on Tuesday claimed the Premier League club were locked in talks with the Bundesliga giants to bring the USMNT international to the City Ground.
But ESPN has now claimed they are facing stiff competition from Marseille, who have also reached an agreement with Dortmund.
It’s claimed both proposals include the option to make the loan deal a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
They are also reporting that two other unnamed clubs have similar agreements in place with Dortmund with Reyna at the heart of a fierce transfer tussle.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, and father Claudio Reyna are both locked in negotiations with clubs as they hope to find the right solution for the midfielder this month.
It’s thought Dortmund want a transfer fee of around $16m included in any loan deal.
Reyna’s contract at Dortmund ends in June 2025 and he signed with super agent Mendes in December. He has started just twice for Dortmund this season, making 11 further appearances as a substitute.
The 21-year-old, Tyne-and-Wear-born American was once considered one of the hottest up-and-coming prospects in world soccer, but has not managed to score or assist in 13 appearances across all competitions this season.
He could now follow into his father’s footsteps by playing in England. Claudio was a midfielder with 87 and 28 appearances for Manchester City and Sunderland. He was a fan favorite among both sets of supporters.
Reyna has been linked with a move away from Germany all January, with Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Wolves and Aston Villa also registering interest in the player.

In the wake of the USA’s 1-0 recent loss to Slovenia, head coach Gregg Berhalter showed his support to Reyna regarding his reasons for wanting to leave Dortmund this month.
‘Any professional who’s competitive wants to be on the field,’ Berhalter said.
‘This is a case where Gio hasn’t been getting the game time that he wants and potentially (is) looking for alternate options, and that’s completely understandable.’
Reyna became at 17 the youngest American to debut in the Bundesliga in 2020.
He was limited to a pair of substitute appearances at the 2022 World Cup, and a feud developed between the Reyna family and Belhalter that caused Berhalter to be replaced by interim coaches for much of last year.
Berhalter resumed coaching in September and Reyna played four matches with the U.S. in October and November.
‘We support him in his quest to get on the field regularly and (are) looking forward to to the outcome of that,’ Berhalter said.
