Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood was on target again for Getafe in their 2-0 LaLiga win against Granada on Monday night.

Greenwood departed Old Trafford on loan last summer after reaching a mutual agreement with the club that it was best for him to recommence his career elsewhere after he was arrested on suspicion of a number of charges, including attempted rape, in January 2022.

The Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges in February 2023, but Greenwood was sent out on loan to Getafe and he has made a positive start to life in Spain.

He netted his fourth league goal of the season on Monday as he opened the scoring with a delicate near-post finish.

Cutting inside onto his favoured left foot, Greenwood clipped an effort from just inside the area that wrong-footed goalkeeper Augusto Batalla and found the corner of the net.

Greenwood wheeled away towards the corner flag to celebrate with his team-mates, as he set his side on their way to a routine victory.

His 21st-minute strike put Getafe in control, and fellow forward Borja Mayoral doubled the hosts’ lead 15 minutes later.

Getafe saw out the game with minimal fuss and remain in 10th place, while Granada stay in the relegation zone, and are six points adrift of safety.

Greenwood’s loan deal at Getafe is set to expire this summer, while his United contract is set to end in June 2025.

But the 22-year-old is reportedly keen to stay in Spain, and has reportedly told his advisors that a £40m switch to Barcelona would be a dream move for him.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also believed to be tracking Greenwood’s progress at Getafe as they weigh up making an approach for the striker.
