Mathys Tel agrees to join Man Utd but Arsenal still keen

Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has agreed to join Manchester United on loan, according to Sky Germany.

The Red Devils’ persistence is paying off. Earlier this week, Tel informed Tottenham Hotspur that he wished to remain at Bayern despite the fact that the two clubs had agreed an eye-catching €60 million transfer.

The French striker has been torn on his future all window, initially wanting to stay, then accepting that he would be better off leaving only to then again express his desire to remain in Munich.

Despite his latest change of heart, a late departure has never been entirely off the table as Tel remained open to a potential loan exit from Bayern. Man Utd and Arsenal have continued to court the 19-year-old and, in the case of the former, it has paid dividends.

According to Sky Germany, Tel has now agreed to join Man Utd and concrete negotiations between the Red Devils and Bayern are taking place.

Arsenal remain keen on Tel

However, the outlet also reports that talks are so far proving complicated between the two clubs. Man Utd offered a loan package for the striker, but Bayern immediately rejected it.

It is claimed that the Bavarians are holding out for either a permanent deal or a loan with an obligation to purchase Tel in the summer. Not to be deterred, Man Utd are continuing negotiations with their German counterparts.

Intriguingly, journalist Florian Plettenberg notes that Arsenal are also still in the mix, although it is unclear whether Tel would be keen to link up with the Gunners.

The deciding factor for the youngster is playing time and it seems that Man Utd have given him assurances that he will see plenty of minutes at Old Trafford.

Indeed, head coach Ruben Amorim appeared to drop a major hint to that effect when he omitted both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund from his starting XI against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
