Bayern Munich are furious with Mathys Tel over his attitude during the final days of the transfer window.

Tel had initially not expected to leave Bayern during the transfer period but after getting no game time from head coach Vincent Kompany during a string of matches last month had a change of heart.

Although the Bundesliga giants have been open to allowing the striker to leave, they wanted him to go on a permanent transfer – or at least a loan with an obligation to buy.

Tottenham provided the 19-year-old Frenchman the opportunity to move to the Premier League, but he turned down the opportunity to complete a €60 million move.

Although Arsenal and Manchester United are both interested in the player, both giants have targeted a loan with a purchase option, meaning that Tel could head back to Bayern in the summer.

This has left Kompany’s side in a sticky situation.

Bayern rage over Tel’s Spurs rejection

“Mathys Tel, one to watch in the next few hours definitely. Very tricky situation to be honest,” Florian Plettenberg explained.

“Yesterday, there were concrete negotiations between Bayern and Manchester United about a loan deal. But Bayern are angry with Tel.

“That’s because Daniel Levy himself flew to Munich on Friday, he was sitting on the table with Tel and his agent. Tel said to Levy but said sorry, but I don’t feel the project at Tottenham. Bayern were ready to agree the £50m package from Spurs.

“At the moment, there’s no agreement with any club. Manchester United submitted yesterday a loan deal with an option to buy, but Bayern – at this stage of the window – is only willing to let him go with an obligation to buy or a permanent deal.

“Maybe Manchester United will re-enter the negotiations, but for now – Tel remains a Bayern player.”

Bayern want to use the funds from any deal they strike with Tel to sign a centre-back, which is why they want the guarantee of a sizeable transfer fee.
