Mbappe produced one of his best performances of the season to date as he scored a wonderful second for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in that encounter having already seen an effort disallowed for offside.

But what promised to be an excellent night for the World Cup winner was to end in disaster as he limped off the field with 10 minutes remaining to be replaced by Arda Guler.

Initially, it was claimed Mbappe’s withdrawal was little more than a precautionary measure, yet his issue has proven to be more serious than Ancelotti would have wished.

Mbappe injury timescale revealed

COPE reports that Mbappe will miss at least three weeks of action because of a hamstring injury.

It means that the former PSG star, who joined Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer, will miss a series of major clashes for Ancelotti’s team.

Should this diagnosis prove accurate, Mbappe will certainly miss the three matches prior to the international break, including Sunday’s derby against Atletico Madrid, a potential reunion with brother Ethan’s Lille side in the Champions League and Villarreal in LaLiga.

Real Madrid’s next six fixtures

Date Opponent Mbappe’s status
29 Sep Atletico Madrid (a) OUT
2 Oct Lille (a) OUT
5 Oct Villarreal (h) OUT
19 Oct Celta Vigo (a) LIKELY FIT
22 Oct Borussia Dortmund (h) LIKELY FIT
26 Oct Barcelona (h) LIKELY FIT

Real Madrid will hope that he will be fit after the resumption of play following that break, in which France face Israel and Belgium in the Nations League.

If Mbappe’s injury takes even a little longer than expected to clear, though, he could miss fixtures against Celta Vigo, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona in what is supposed to be his first Clasico encounter.

Madrid will certainly nurse the Frenchman back from injury with an eye on that massive Bernabeu date, which is already shaping up to be vital in LaLiga.
