Manchester United‘s misfit forward Marcus Rashford is still a transfer target for a European heavyweight.

Marcus Rashford has been misfiring for Man Utd since the start of last season but that hasn’t stopped Paris Saint-Germain from retaining him as a transfer target.

PSG tried to sign Rashford this past summer after Kylian Mbappe left them to join Real Madrid, but their interest in a move was rebuffed by the Red Devils.

This has not deterred the Parisian outfit, however, and sports journalist Rudy Galetti is reporting that PSG are still considering a swoop for the forward in the summer of 2025 to strengthen their attacking unit.

That would be a huge move as it would lift Rashford back into the Champions League and give him a major platform from which to challenge for major titles again.

Rashford to PSG: a move to suit everyone?

While Man Utd rebuffed the transfer a year ago, they may now look at it as a situation where every party could benefit from a move.

For United. the benefit is obviously a massive contract off their wage bill and a huge transfer fee to give the club an enormous margin to spend big and remain within PSR.

Rashford is from Man Utd’s academy, so any transfer fee received for him is marked as entirely profit due to there being no transfer fee to amortise.

Chelsea have used the sale of youth team products to fund their lavish transfer spend under Todd Boehly and ClearLake. One such sale was Mason Mount’s move to Man Utd!

So Man Utd get a huge fee, possibly close to £100m, and Rashford himself gets a break. A new environment and place to play, which appears to be something he needs.

Marcus Rashford clearly loves Man Utd, he’s literally played through a broken back to help the club, but something has definitely soured in the relationship between player and club and now all Rashford does is run around the pitch looking bereft of the cutting edge he once so proudly terrified everyone with.

Maybe Erik ten Hag’s departure would see him return to life, but the Dutchman doesn’t look like being sacked right just now – and even if he is, the damage may have already been done.

A change of club, city and country could be exactly what Rashford needs for a fresh start. And the management of Luis Enrique could get the very best out of him.

For PSG, the need is obvious. They lost a fast goalscoring left-wing-forward in Kylian Mbappé and want to replace him. To that end, Rashford is an obvious choice as his style of play is very similar to Mbappe’s.

So this transfer, though perhaps unlikely, could benefit everyone involved.
