Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi backtracks on claims that Magpies fans ‘need to be louder’ claiming his ‘heart bleeds black and white’ ahead of crunch Champions League match against PSG

Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has backtracked on his previous claims that the club’s fans ‘need to be louder’ asserting that his ‘love for the club and it’s supporters is unwavering.’ 

Ghodoussi’s rallying call came after their 4-1 victory against Chelsea on Saturday, but attracted the attention of many fans who hit back at his comments, stating that the club needs to improve its ticketing systems. 

The Newcastle co-owner wrote on X (formerly Twitter): ‘What a team. We need to give these guys more support in the stadium, we need to be louder, we need to be the 12th man.’ 

Newcastle currently sit seventh in the table, having only dropped points in two of their previous league outings. On Tuesday they come up against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes and Ghodoussi spoke out on his previous comments on social media, claiming his words may have been misunderstood. 

‘Often, our intentions and words don’t align perfectly,’ he wrote on X. 

He posted the rallying cry on social media following his side’s 4-1 victory against Chelsea

But ahead of the Magpies’ match against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, he took to X to re-affirm his commitment and love for the football club

‘I believe most of you know how deeply I’m committed to this club; my heart beats in black and white and my love for the club and all of you is unwavering. 

‘Let’s keep our fingers crossed for tonight, we stand united. Here’s to us and our journey together. Howay the Lads.’ 

But he faced some criticism from Newcastle fans following his earlier post, with one writing: ‘This club has added a new £800-per-game hospitality package this season designed for tourists, has one of the largest ticket touting problems in the Premier League and has awful pre-match build up. 

‘Our half time entertainment is the announcer reading out birthday messages.’

Another added: ‘I think it’s hard for people to get organised and set up things/songs/chants when they’re not sat together. Have folks picked their seats, sit with their friends and it will probably improve.’

‘Bring back the old ticketing system and you won’t have any problem with that,’ another added. 

The Magpies claimed a huge win against Chelsea with all of Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon scoring.  

Eddie Howe’s side currently sit seventh in the Premier League five points off fourth place after securing a huge 4-1 against Chelsea at the weekend 

Fans took to social media to question his claims, stating that the club needs to sort out its ticketing systems 

Howe’s side also sit bottom of Group F in the Champions League and need a win against PSG to keep their qualification hopes alive

Newcastle fans turned St James’ Park into a bearpit for their home leg against PSG back in October, where they thumped the Ligue 1 giants 4-1.

Despite that, Eddie Howe’s side sit bottom of Group F after suffering back-to-back defeats by Borussia Dortmund. 

Since Newcastle’s £305million takeover was completed in 2021, Ghodoussi’s side have played some excellent football, achieving qualification for the European competition for the first time in approximately 20 years. 

But questions have been raised over their takeover, with some Newcastle fans urging the Premier League to investigate the deal earlier this year.
