Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon means they have won all of their last eight matches across all competitions.
Last season’s historic treble winners have started their Premier League campaign with a perfect record, picking up 18 points out of a possible 18 across their first six matches, leaving them two points clear at the top of the table.
Pep Guardiola’s side have already beaten Newcastle in the league this season, winning 1-0 at home against the Magpies on the second day of the season.
The Citizens have also won all three of their away matches so far this season, and have conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League this season, having let just three goals in across their six matches.
Newcastle will be high on confidence heading into Wednesday night’s encounter having earned themselves an 8-0 victory away at Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon, their biggest ever away victory in the club’s history.
The Magpies’ thrashing of the Blades came just five days after the club made their first appearance back in the Champions League for 20 years, the club earning a 0-0 draw away at seven-time European champions AC Milan to mark the occasion.
Eddie Howe’s side have managed to keep clean sheets in all of their last three matches in all competitions, and their huge win on Sunday makes them the Premier League’s joint-second top scorers this season.
Back to back Premier League victories after a tough start to the season has lifted the Magpies up to eighth in the table now, and with some favourable fixtures coming up next, the club are definitely looking up the table rather than down it.
Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 10 matches against Newcastle, of which they’ve won eight, and have kept clean sheets in four of their last five games against the Magpies.
Howe has lost 14 out of the 15 matches he’s managed against Manchester City, earning just one draw in that time.
