Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock revealed he had been subjected to racist abuse online after his side were beaten by Fulham on Saturday.
Jacob Murphy gave the Magpies a first-half lead at St James’ Park, but Marco Silva‘s side drew level after the interval.
Just after the hour mark Willock came on to replace Joelinton in midfield, and missed a chance to restore Newcastle’s lead after failing to connect with a cross from Alexander Isak shortly after being introduced.
The visitors would ultimately secure all three points after Rodrigo Muniz netted in the closing stages to complete the Cottagers’ comeback.
Following the game, Willock took to social media to share screenshots of vile racist abuse he had received online.
One sickening comment Willock received that he subsequently shared to his Instagram story read: ‘You can’t score from such position? Black n****’.

The midfielder has made 26 appearances for Newcastle this season predominantly from the bench, contributing a goal and an assist.
Newcastle play host to Willock’s former side Arsenal on Wednesday, as Eddie Howe’s side look to book their place in the EFL Cup final for the second time in the last three years.
The Magpies won the first leg at the Emirates 2-0, with Willock starting in central midfield.
