Nottingham Forest 1-1 Burnley – Clarets denied winner by controversial call as Callum Hudson-Odoi stunner earns point – Eurosport

Burnley were controversially denied their first win of the season after Lyle Foster had a lae strike ruled out during their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The striker thought he’d earned his side the three points in the second half, only for VAR to decide Sander Berge deliberately handled the ball during the build-up.

The hosts dominated the opening 20 minutes, but only created one real chance for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was denied by James Trafford.

That came in between Foster and Zeki Amdouni having strikes saved for the Clarets, and the latter fired his side ahead from inside the D just before the break, calmly and clinically finding the bottom corner.

The lead lasted until just after the hour mark, when Hudson-Odoi superbly curled into the far top corner from the edge of the box as Forest were rewarded for a fine start to the second half.

There was some late drama to come though, with Foster seeing a strike ruled out after Sander Berge was adjudged to have used his arm to control the ball in the build up.

Another late VAR check saw Foster sent off for a dangerous piece of play.

Burnley have every right to feel aggrieved after Foster’s strike was chalked off for handball deep into the second half.

It took a long VAR check before the goal was eventually cancelled, with referee Rob Jones sent to look at the monitor to see whether or not Sander Berge used his arm to control in the build up.

Once that had happened, the eventual call was inevitable, but TV footage was certainly inconclusive over whether Berge used his arm to intentionally control the ball, with the contact minimal. Either way, it was far from a clear and obvious error.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (Nottingham Forest). The forward arrived at the City Ground for a small fee but with a big reputation, and he lived up to that in this fixture.

A consistent threat down the left-wing, Hudson-Odoi used his pace to great effect, causing the Burnley defence no end of problems.

The visitors had no answer to his ability to cut inside, and it was that drop of the shoulder and dip onto his right foot that ultimately pulled Forest level as he unleashed a curling effort that found the top corner.
