Nottingham Forest release incredible statement blasting ‘three extremely poor decisions’ during defeat at Everton and sensationally claim ‘the VAR is a Luton fan’… as Jamie Carragher labels online outburst ’embarassing’

Nottingham Forest have blasted three ‘extremely poor decisions’ regarding penalties that were not given in their favour in their 2-0 defeat to Everton.

The Midlands club – in the heart of a relegation battle at the bottom of the Premier League – claimed they warned PGMOL over bias from a VAR official.  

Forest also warned that they would ‘consider its options’ after the defeat at Goodison Park.  

On X (formerly Twitter), the club wrote: ‘Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

‘We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

‘NFFC will now consider its options.’

Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan wrote on X: ‘Perhaps unsurprisingly, the FA will be investigating the Forest tweet. While a points deduction is unlikely, a hefty fine is not.’

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo revealed after the match: ‘I don’t understand the reason for the decisions of Anthony Taylor and VAR because I see the images. 

‘But this is a general feeling that’s been with us, we are trying to ignore it and so many times it’s repeating bad decisions against us, not gibing us. 

‘Even taking things from us, it’s very difficult to control. The players and me are trying to focus on football because it’s been very hard. 

‘The situation that we are doesn’t help, now we have some stress and fear but it’s not an excuse. It’s been clear what’s happening to us, not only in this game. 

‘I’ve seen the images. It’s hard to take. It’s a pen on Gio Reyna, it’s a kick, it’s a handball and it’s understandable we are proactive as a club because we want things right. 

‘We don’t want bad referees, we want good decisions. If we lose because of a bad display, we take it, but it’s disappointing with the decisions.’ 

Jamie Carragher agreed that Nottingham Forest should have had a penalty after the ball hit Everton’s Ashley Young on the arm – but it was judged to be in a ‘natural position’ for his movement at the time. 

After the match, Carragher said: ‘It tells you where we are with the PL. Stuart Atwell and Anthony Taylor have had an awful day today and they should rightly be criticised for that. 

‘I get the frustration but that, that’s like a fan in a pub. That’s embarrassing from Nottingham Forest. Rubbish, about VAR a Luton fan, you’ve got to show a little bit of class. 

‘I get it, the frustration, officials had an awful day, but that’s nonsense, you can’t get involved in that.’

VAR official Stuart Atwell came under criticism from Carragher after the full-time whistle

He later added: ‘Awful from Stuart Atwell. He’s got to help out Anthony Taylor.

‘I can’t not go back to this tweet. That last line, what options, you going to stop playing, you going to check every official in the country and they can’t be on these games?’

Nottingham Forest may learn this month whether they will regain any of the four points they lost for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations.

Forest appealed the punishment, and Mail Sport previously revealed the hearing will start in the coming week.
