Official: Eintracht snap up Dahoud on a free

Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the permanent signing of German-Syrian midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud from EPL side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Former German national team midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud’s rumored move to his fourth German club has been officially confirmed. The former Gladbach, Dortmund, and Stuttgart professional heads to Germany’s financial and commercial capital as an Eintracht Frankfurt signing. The SGE were able to sign Dahoud on a free from Brighton & Hove Albion after the 28-year-old and his EPL side terminated his contract by mutual consent.

It has been nothing short of a disastrous year for Dahoud since he left for the Isle last summer. A failure to catch on with the Seagulls led to his estimated market worth tanking, falling to €6 million from €14 million by the time he was loaned out to Stuttgart last spring. Dahoud accrued almost no playing time with the Swabians. His attempts to join the Syrian national team led to more off-the-pitch snafus with his agent.

What sort of role Dahoud with play on Dino Toppmöller’s side remains to be seen. Toppmöller does need additional assistance in midfield after new signing Oscar Højlund incurred a serious injury, but the former Düsseldorf academy man must first shed his “damaged goods” reputation. SGE sporting director Timmo Hardung at least attempted to put a positive spin on matters with his club statement,.

“With Mo Dahoud, we have been able to sign an experienced player who knows the Bundesliga inside out and is also at a ripe footballing age,” Hardung said, “We have not only responded to the temporary absence of Oscar Højlund, but can now rely on a high-quality reinforcement in a central position for the longer term. We are delighted that Mo will be wearing the eagle on his chest with immediate effect.”

“I made it in just fine and received a very warm welcome,” Dahoud himself said in a statement published on the club’s website, “I’m am delighted to be at Eintracht now. I will show enthusiasm, team spirit and passion, I always want to win.”
