Swedish police have reportedly stepped up their investigation after Kylian Mbappe was accused of rape and sexual harassment earlier this month.

The French star – who denies the allegations – was visiting Sweden with friends between October 9 to October 11, staying at the Bank Hotel in the city centre.

Shortly after his trip concluded, Mbappe had blasted a report from Aftonbladet as ‘fake news’ about an alleged rape at the hotel that took place on Thursday, October 10.

However, Swedish newspaper Expressen later claimed it was Mbappe who is being investigated by police after allegations were made against the Real Madrid star. Mbappe has not officially been named as a suspect.

On the aforementioned night, Mbappe had visited the Chez Jolie restaurant, before heading to the V nightclub and finally back to his hotel in a black van with his entourage.

The 25-year-old played his first game since the allegations for Real Madrid at the weekend, scoring in their 2-1 win over Celta Vigo.

But, Aftonbladet have now claimed the investigation into the accusations is actively underway, with police and forensics opening a probe at the hotel.

The report goes onto claim that police visited the hotel at the weekend and have interviewed several staff members.

This has been done to understand which rooms and general areas were used by Mbappe and his entourage, with it believed that CCTV cameras will be crucial in the probe.

Police also checked the suite that Mbappe stayed in.

Cameras are based outside each hotel room in the corridors, but police and prosecutors have remained tight-lipped on any updates to the case.

However, the report adds that the forensic investigators were seen carrying out several brown paper bags as they exited the hotel.

After the initial allegations surfaced, Mbappe shared a newspaper article on the alleged rape on X and wrote: ‘Fake News! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance,’ referring to a hearing as part of his fight against his former club PSG over £46million in unpaid wages and bonuses that took place the following day.

Meanwhile, Mbappe’s entourage had told AFP in a statement: ‘Today, a new slanderous rumour is starting to spread across the web from the Swedish media Aftonbladet.

‘These accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable.

‘In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of (the) image (of Kylian Mbappe), all necessary legal actions will be taken to re-establish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappe is suffering repeatedly,’ the statement added.
