Portsmouth players and fans trashed an O’Neills pub as they celebrated promotion into the Championship with a beer-soaked late night party.

A dramatic late comeback 3-2 win over Barnsley at Fratton Park sealed the League One title for Pompey as they returned to the second-tier for the first time in 12 years.

After a mass pitch invasion marked the victory, the squad joined jubilant fans in drinking the town dry.

Videos circulated on social media showed Marlon Pack addressing fans but being rudely interrupted by defender Joe Rafferty mooning the audience.

Another showed the squad singing along to Wonderwall by Oasis, while Will Norris was pictured behind the bar at O’Neills Southsea asking for more beers.

Portsmouth’s wild promotion celebrations took a cheeky turn when Joe Rafferty mooned fans as captain Marlon Pack was attempting to deliver a speech to jubilant fans in the pub

But another clip showed the messy aftermath of the party, with the bar strewn with broken bottles and cans after the fire alarms were put on to empty the place out.

A huge crowd of fans was seen outside the pub chanting ‘blue army, blue army’ as they looked to continue the celebrations beyond closing time.

‘O’Neills has fallen,’ said the caption accompanying the video, while another tweet read: ‘Think the club are gonna receive an invoice for O’Neill’s btw. Gaff was absolutely trashed last night.’

O’Neills staff declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline. Hampshire Police were also contacted after social media reports of damage inside the pub following the party.

Rafferty shared Instagram clips showing hundreds of fans thronging the streets, climbing on signs and bus shelters while singing a ‘f*** ’em all’ chant about West Ham and Millwall.

Defender Tom McIntyre shared an Instagram video of fans inside the pub chanting ‘bounce around if you’re top of the league.’

Thousands of jubilant Pompey supporters stormed on to the pitch at full-time after Conor Shaughnessy netted the crucial winner in the 89th minute.

Portsmouth twice went behind in the match after Devante Cole’s early opener and John McAtee’s strike shortly before the hour mark, but managed to rally a late surge to win promotion, with top scorer Colby Bishop equalising from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute before Shaughnessy’s dramatic winning goal.

Promotion to the Championship ends Portsmouth’s 12-year spell outside English football’s second tier, with the south coast club falling as low as League Two in 2013 due to crippling financial struggles.

Portsmouth owner Eric Eisner, who bought the club from the Pompey Supporters Trust in 2017, posted to social media on Tuesday: ‘Perfectly fitting way to win the league!! 2 late goals from the team that never quit all season.

‘Everybody deserves this from the fans, to the staff, to the players. Let it all soak in. I have a feeling Portsmouth will be on fire tonight. See you over for the finale. CHAMPIONS!’

Cole’s strike threatened to spoil Portsmouth’s promotion party in the early stages, but Kusini Yengi levelled terms in the ninth minute much to the relief of the Fratton faithful.

The match developed into a nervy affair as both teams battled for a crucial go-ahead goal, which came by way of Barnsley striker McAtee in the 59th minute.

Pushed on by the home support, John Mousinho’s side fought hard for a turnaround in the closing stages before Bishop netted from the penalty spot, scoring his 21st league goal of the season, and Shaughnessy grabbed the winner from a corner kick.

Portsmouth were relegated from the Championship in 2012 after receiving a 10-point deduction for entering administration for the second time in two years.
