Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly held talks with the representatives of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes after entering the race to sign the player this summer.

The likes of Man City, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all believed to be interested in the Brazilian, who has a release clause in the region of £100million.

Magpies chief executive Darren Eales revealed earlier this year that the club may be forced to sell one of their key players in order to comply with Premier league profit and sustainability rules. 

And talkSPORT report that PSG have entered into talks with Guimaraes over a potential move with the midfielder having a ‘burning desire to play in the champions League’.

Newcastle would be set to make a huge profit on the 26-year-old, who joined the club for £35m in January 2022.

Guimaraes has been a standout at St James’ Park since then and played a key role in last season’s brilliant campaign, where they reached the Carabao Cup final and qualified for the Champions League.

However, they have failed to kick on it was has been an injury-plagued season this time around.

The Saudi owners have pumped in their money and Newcastle announced losses of £73.4m for the year ending June 2023 and £150m over the last two.

Their now find themselves in a difficult financial situation but Toon boss Eddie Howe is reluctant to sell his star man.

Speaking earlier this month, Howe said: ‘My intention would be to keep Bruno for as long as we possibly can because I can.

‘But I can never make guarantees because that would be absolutely foolish of me. I’ve been in football long enough to know you never know what is going to happen tomorrow.

‘But he’s an integral part of the team and playing really well at the moment.

‘A lot will depend on our ambitions and where the club is going in the foreseeable future. We need to show we’re moving forward.’
