Ramos scores Champions League’s 10,000th goal

Sergio Ramos made his Champions League debut in September 2005 with Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos scored the 10,000th goal in the Champions League as Sevilla named the oldest starting 11 in the history of the competition in a 3-2 defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Ramos, who has netted 16 times in the competition, brought up the 10,000th goal milestone when heading in Ivan Rakitic’s cross at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Former Everton forward Daniel Amokachi scored the first goal in the Champions League in 1992, for Club Bruges.

Ramos’ first Champions League league goal came in December 2005 for Real Madrid, 6,773 days ago. It is the longest gap between a players’ first and most recent goal in the competition.

The 37-year-old is the fourth oldest scorer in the Champions League with former Real Madrid centre-back partner Pepe, 40, at the top of the list.

Sevilla boss Diego Alonso named the oldest starting line-up in Champions League history with an average age of 32 years and 19 days, beating the record of 31 years and 331 days set by Inter Milan in February 2012.

The La Liga outfit looked on track for victory, which would have guaranteed Arsenal’s place in the last-16, after Youssef En Nesyri added to Ramos’ effort.

But Ismael Saibari’s strike and a Nemanja Gudelj own goal made it 2-2 with nine minutes left.

USA forward Ricardo Pepi then sealed PSV’s comeback win when he scored in the second minute of injury time.
