Rodrigo Bentancur‘s personal trainer has dished out an update on the midfielder’s condition after his head smash with Abdul Fatawu on Monday night.
The Tottenham star was knocked out in the late stages of the 1-1 draw with Leicester, falling to the ground after clashing skulls.
He was initially unresponsive and medics rushed on to treat him for seven minutes before he sat up. He still required oxygen before being stretchered off.
Ange Postecoglou was unable to offer much information beyond the fact he was ‘up and talking’ in the wake of the match at the King Power Stadium.
Now Daniel Fernandez, the 27-year-old’s personal trainer, has offered an encouraging update about his situation.

However, his personal trainer Daniel Fernandez has revealed that he is in a ‘good condition’
‘It was a great scare, but he is recovering well. After an hour in the dressing room he reacted well,’ he told Uruguayan outlet Medios Publicos.
‘Today he will continue with some tests that they are going to do and we’re hoping that everything continues as it has so far.
‘He was in a good mood and in good condition. It is difficult sometimes to think what may happen but thanks to God it seems to me that everything is going to be fine, and Rodrigo is going to be in optimal conditions.’
That is welcome news for Tottenham fans, who have seen Bentancur go through multiple injuries during his time at the club.
However, he will not be available to play in their upcoming match against Everton on Saturday, according to Fernandez.
Most notably he was ruled out for eight months in 2023 after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
That, too, was against Leicester at the King Power, though on that occasion he scored in a 4-1 win.
The midfielder will need to pass concussion tests before returning to Postecoglou’s matchday squad, and Tottenham face a quick turnaround in between games.
Ange Postecoglou revealed Bentancur was talking after the game, but admitted he needs to be ‘very careful’ with the midfielder following his worrying head injury
Bentancur has a bad history against Leicester after also injuring himself against them in 2023
In Bentancur’s absence, Tottenham were unable to find a winning goal as they failed to begin their campaign with a victory against their newly-promoted opponents.
Pedro Porro gave the visitors the lead in the first half after heading home James Maddison’s cross, but Tottenham failed to make the most of their dominance and were pegged back after the break when Jamie Vardy scored from close range to earn the Foxes a point.
