The Danish midfielder has an expiring contract and according to Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd have no intention of offering Eriksen a new contract. This leaves the road back to Ajax completely open for Eriksen.

“No doubts or changes in the plans of Christian Eriksen: he will leave Manchester United on a free transfer in July,” Romano wrote on X on Tuesday afternoon.

The 33-year-old midfielder is simply no longer in the plans at Old Trafford and seems to have to find a new home elsewhere.

It is no secret that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to clean house at Man Utd and say goodbye to disfavored players.

Eriksen open to Ajax return

Speaking to Tipsbladet earlier this week, Eriksen said he is open to a potential return to Ajax, while he also played down talk of a potential move back to his native Denmark.

“I still feel like I have a few good years abroad,” he says. “In Denmark, you really look at your family and end your career that way, but I don’t feel like I’m there yet.”

Last summer, the attacking midfielder was already strongly linked with a return to Ajax. However, a deal did not materialise at the time. He does not rule out a return to the Amsterdam club this summer.

“I am not closing the door on anything. I will see what happens and whether it is something that fits. That was last summer. We will have to wait and see where they stand this summer. Of course, it is also about the interest from the other side and not just from the player.”

Eriksen, 33, played a total of 163 matches for Ajax between 2009 and 2013, scoring 32 goals and providing 65 assists.

The 140-time Denmark international later also played for Tottenham, Inter, Brentford and finally Man Utd. At the latter club, he has so far scored seven goals and provided 17 assists in 99 matches.
