Salah in best form of Liverpool career as Egyptian equals Henry with Europa League goal

Mohamed Salah is officially in the best form of his Liverpool career after helping the Reds’ beat LASK in the Europa League.

The Egyptian scored the third goal for his side as they came from behind to beat their Austrian opponents 3-1 on Thursday.

Salah only played 16 minutes of the game but his impact was instant as he preyed on the tired legs of the LASK defence late on.

He caused no end of problems in the final stages before grabbing a goal with two minutes to go, fending off multiple defenders to poke home.

The strike impressed Ray Houghton, the former Red saying on commentary for talkSPORT 2: “The way he just moves his body from one side to the other, the arrogant flick…

“[Jurgen] Klopp knows he’s seen something special from Salah there.”

The Liverpool boss is used to seeing that ‘special’ side to Salah and the 31-year-old is continuing to prove why is one of the best players in the world.

His goal was his 189th in all competitions for the club and ensured that he continued his incredible run of form at the start of this campaign.

Salah has assisted four and scored two in the first five games of the Premier League season and has now opened his account in Europe.

If you take the run into last season, he has been involved in a goal in each of his last 12 games for the Reds, which is his best streak since arriving at the club six years ago.

The ‘Egyptian King’ is in the form of his career on Merseyside and he is close to breaking another record.

Salah’s strike in the Europa League was his 42nd in major European competitions for Liverpool.

This is the joint-most ever that a player has scored for an English club in Europe.

He sits alongside Arsenal legend Thierry Henry who ended his Gunners career on the same tally.

So Salah is now on the brink of history and could move above Henry with another goal during Liverpool’s European campaign.

And that is likely to come in their next European game if his form continues, which is against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday, October 5.
