Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane has broken his silence over his future amid reports that he is wanted by Manchester United and Arsenal as a free agent.
Sane is out of contract with Bayern at the end of the season and progress has been slow to tie him down to a new deal.
The 28-year-old has struggled to win game time this season under Vincent Kompany, with his 11 appearances across all competitions coming almost exclusively as a substitute. Despite playing only 386 minutes for Bayern, he has still managed to score three goals.
Sane’s value, meanwhile, remains high. He is the most valuable player heading for free agency this summer – his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €43.1 million – and clubs like Man Utd and Arsenal who are seeking additional attacking options are thought to be monitoring his progress.
The Germany international, though, appears to be cool on moving back to England, where he previously enjoyed a stint with Manchester City.
“I follow Premier League football. But the attraction for me lies in the club where I can show my best performance, develop and win titles. I have that at FC Bayern. We keep talking,” Sane told Bild, confirming contract talks.
“We are in talks. I feel comfortable in Munich.
“I feel really comfortable. Talks are very good. My focus is currently only on FC Bayern.”
Bayern, meanwhile, are seeking to cut their wage bill, which suggests that if he is to remain at the Allianz Arena, he will have to reduce his €20 million-per-year salary.
Leroy Sane: Reaching the ‘next level’ under Arteta
Sane has previously praised the work done by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, which had helped fuel transfer speculation.
“I can just say positive things about Mikel Arteta,” Sane, who worked with the Spaniard at Manchester City, told The Independent in 2020.
“He helped me a lot on the pitch. He tried to improve my football, he told me what I did good and what I did wrong, and he tried to work on it.
“Next to Pep, they both really helped me and improved me, to bring me to the next level.
“Even now, at Arsenal, for me you can see he’s doing a great job. You can see he has a concept, a way that he wants to play, a way that he wants his team to play, and obviously it will take some time until everybody really understands it.”
