Manchester United full-back Tyrell Malacia was briefly considered by PSV, but his fitness problems made a deal impossible, according to Dutch media.

PSV are desperately looking for reinforcements for the back line. With the departures of Jordan Teze, Andre Ramalho and Patrick van Aanholt, Peter Bosz is quite short of defenders. Especially with the possible departure of Olivier Boscagli and the injuries of Mauro Junior and Armando Obispo in mind.

In the search for players who can strengthen the defence of the Eindhoven team, the name of Tyrell Malacia has been mentioned at the Philips Stadium. This is reported by journalist Mounir Boualin of Soccernews. However, Malacia has not become a concrete option for the Brabant club, which has to do with a specific reason.

According to Boualin, PSV discovered that the Man Utd left-back would still need some time to get fit. That was the main reason for technical director Earnest Stewart not to make a concrete approach for the former Feyenoord left back and instead switch to other options.

Malacia struggling to get fit

It is somewhat surprising that PSV chose Malacia for the left-back position. The Dutchman has not played a game for Man Utd since 2023 and he is clearly not having a good time at Old Trafford.

The left-back has had to deal with repeated injuries in Manchester, which has prevented him from seeing minutes for the Red Devils.

The competition is fierce, too, in the form of Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, which makes it unlikely that he will get significant game time this season.

Malacia, now 25, joined from Feyenoord in 2022 for a fee of €15 million. The left-back had a solid first year under Erik ten Hag and played 39 games.

Last season, however, was one to quickly forget for Malacia. The nine-time Dutch international did not play a single game for the English side.
