Sky and Sport Bild: Bayern step up efforts to sign Nagelsmann

By Peter Weis@PeterVicey

German transfer guru Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reports that talks between Julian Nagelsmann and FC Bayern München over a return to the head-coaching position are becoming more concrete. Germany’s main sporting tabloid also makes a claim of “advanced talks”

Following up on reports first appearing in Germany’s main sporting tabloid late last week, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims that FC Bayern München are getting serious about re-installing Julian Nagelsmann as the team’s head coach. The current German Bundestrainer’s last public comments on the matter were that he had received “no written offer” from his former club.

Plettenberg and Germany’s main sporting tabloid claim that Max Eberl and the FCB administrative team have gotten serious about changing that. Plettenberg wrote on social media platform X today that “advanced talks” over a “three or four year deal” are now taking place. Nagelsmann’s contract as the German national team coach is reported to expire at the end of this summer’s Euros.

The fact that Nagelsmann remains the top-choice of club executives Eberl and Christoph Freund obviously does not mean that the two administrators don’t have other candidates in mind. Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton & Hove Albion and Unai Emery of Aston Villa are believed to be on the short list. Sky and Spanish sports daily Marca reported today that Bayern have initiated contact with Zinidine Zidane.

If the rumors prove true, it’s reasonable to assume that both sides will wish to come to an agreement quickly so as to minimize any sort of distraction ahead of the coming continental championship. With the executives responsible for dismissing Nagelsmann last spring – Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic – no longer with the record champions, the 36-year-old can receive a fresh start at the Säbener Straße.
