Son makes Jorginho pay after mistake as Spurs steal point in north London derby

Heung-Min Son equalised twice as Arsenal and Tottenham drew 2-2 in Sunday’s north London derby at the Emirates.

The Gunners and Spurs went into the break level at 1-1 after Son had cancelled out Cristian Romero’s own goal.

But Arsenal were then handed the perfect chance to go back in front after Romero was penalised for a handball in the box.

Up stepped Bukayo Saka, who coolly slotted his penalty home down the middle of the goal in the 54th minute.

However Arsenal’s lead lasted just 23 seconds after the restart as Jorginho, who was on a half-time substitute for Declan Rice, dithered on the ball.

The Brazilian-born Italy international was robbed of possession by James Maddison, who led a two-on-one along with Son.

As William Saliba looked to close Maddison down, he slipped in Son, who made no mistake to tuck home into the bottom left corner.

It sparked wild scenes from the Spurs players and the travelling fans as the home faithful fell into silence.

Both sides press in search of a winner, with Eddie Nketiah having a clipped effort saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

Saka then had an effort tipped round the post in injury time, with Richarlison then having a strike deflected wide in the games last opportunity.

But the match ended 2-2, with Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou to be the happier of the two managers.

Though his side picked up two injury concerns in the second half, with Brennan Johnson forced off with a suspected hamstring injury.

And Maddison, who provided two assists, was later taken off as a precaution with a knee niggle.

Mikel Arteta has his own injury crisis, with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli ruled out ahead of kick-off.

Rice then had to come off at half-time with a calf problem with Arteta to be left sweating by the severity of the possible injury.

The draw maintains Arsenal and Spurs’ unbeaten start to the season, with the visitors ahead in the Premier League table on goal difference.
