Son’s mad 137 seconds! Spurs star scores at BOTH ENDS in just over two minutes as his own goal cancels out his opener in frantic start to clash with Man City

Spurs captain Son Heung-min has scored at both ends of the pitch in the opening ten minutes of their Premier League game against Manchester City.

He was able to squeeze the ball past Ederson for a sixth-minute opener which stunned the hosts at the Etihad, but honours were even just three minutes later when a Man City free-kick deflected off him and into the goal to make it 1-1.

Opta calculated there were just 137 seconds between the two goals, and he is only the second player in history to score at both ends in the first ten minutes of play in the Premier League, after Gareth Barry’s performance for Aston Villa versus Charlton in May 1999.

Regarding the own goal, former England striker Dion Dublin told BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘Nothing Son or Spurs can do about it’.  

The previous quickest pairing of a goal and an own goal by the same Premier League player in a game was Man United‘s Jonny Evans, when he scored the goals 167 seconds apart against Newcastle United in December 2012, as reported by The Athletic.

Fans took to social media to share their reactions to the unusual pair of goals. One said: ‘I hope Spurs win the match, if not, he is going to feel very bad.’ 

Another added: ‘That was a hell of a mistake. That shouldn’t dampen his spirit. This match has been competitive so far’, whilst a third noted: ‘Very funny man , I felt sorry for him’.

However, not everyone was so considerate to Son’s plight, with one writing ‘Soooo Spursy!!’ 

Tottenham’s early advantage was quickly extinguished, and it got even worse for the visitors before half-time, with Phil Foden firing home just after the half hour mark to give Manchester City a 2-1 lead at half-time.
