Germany’s preeminent footballing publication, however, contradicts this report. Kicker Magazine journalist Tim Lüddecke claims that there are other interested parties both in Germany and abroad.
SV Werder Bremen – themselves seeking fresh attacking assistance on the transfer market – have released 27-year-old Polish striker Dawid Kownacki from training so that he may negotiate a move to a different club. Since signing for the Hanseatic city state club last summer, Kownacki have proven a flop in his return to the German top division.
The former Fortuna Düsseldorf man made three starts for Ole Werner’s side early last season, but only made 18 relief appearances after round eight. He didn’t manage to get his name the scoresheet once. Having already brought in Marco Grüll and Keke Topp this offseason, Werder no longer have any use for the seven-times-capped international.
Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid reports that Bremen have ironed out a deal to send Kownacki back to his old stomping grounds. The paper claims that Düsseldorf will take Kownacki on loan for one year with an option to buy. Tim Lüddecke nevertheless pumps the brakes on these rumors. The Bremen correspondent for Kicker Magazine claims there remains interest in the German top flight.
Kownacki could also be headed abroad as Lüddecke – writing on Kicker’s website – claims that there is also interest in Holland. Lüddecke specifically states that no agreement with Düsseldorf has been signed. More information on the matter is expected to come tomorrow.
