Eric Smith will have to wait to make his first appearance for Sweden.

The central defender’s club, FC St. Pauli, announced on Monday that he had been forced to withdraw from the squad due to muscular problems sustained in Saturday’s 0-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

It’s not clear how long he will be sidelined, but St. Pauli have revealed that there is no serious structural injury.

Smith has been an important player for St. Pauli this season, making 12 appearances and scoring two goals.

He signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga outfit last month.
