Streich announces decision on his future will come early next week
SC Freiburg head-coach used the occasion of last night’s Europa League elimination to let members of the assembled media know that he would be making an announcement about his future early next week.

Signs point to the 58-year-old concluding his long tenure in charge of the Breisgauer. Streich has helmed the club since taking over the trainer role in December of 2011. Streich said that he would communicate his decision on “Monday or Tuesday”.

In place since December 2011, Streich has only signed short-term contract extensions in recent years. The writing has long been on the wall that the Baden-native – who has been working for Freiburg in some coaching capacity since 1995 – may be preparing to step aside. Streich announced last night that he would confirm his decision after the weekend.

“This game [the 0-5 loss to West Ham] doesn’t influence the decision,” Streich said, “Naturally, one result doesn’t have any bearing on such a long-term decision. It would be a shame if it did. I’ll let my decision be known early next week, possibly on Monday or Tuesday.”
