Stuart Pearce is taking calls from well-wishers and looking forward to returning to the UK as he continues to recover in a Canadian hospital from a health scare on a transatlantic flight from Las Vegas.
The Virgin aircraft made an emergency landing in Newfoundland on Monday after the legendary England player fell ill on board.
He was immediately taken to hospital where he has been recuperating since
Friends and colleagues from the football and broadcasting world have been able to speak to the 62-year-old who is regarded as super-fit for his age.
Encouragingly, he is now making progress and friends hope it won’t be too long before he can go back to his home in the Midlands.
TalkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface revealed before Saturday lunchtime’s game between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City that he had chatted with Pearce on Friday.
Stuart Pearce is said to be in ‘good spirits’ as he recovers in hospital after a recent health scare

Pearce (R) fell in on board a flight back to the UK from Las Vegas, with the plane forced to make an emergency landing in Canada before the 62-year-old was taken to hospital

Nottingham Forest and Man City fans held a minute’s applause for Pearce during their clash
‘He’s in great spirits. He isn’t 100 per cent, that is definitely the case, but he is in the right place, he is in the hospital. They are dealing with it,’ said Matterface.
‘He is a little bit disappointed about not being here (The City Ground). He was most frustrated about that.
‘He actually said to me, “I have got so much I had to cancel. Some great games and Mumford and Sons are playing on Wednesday night and I can’t go now”’.’
Pearce, who was capped by England 78 times between 1987 and 1999 and played for a number of clubs including Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Newcastle, was hooked up to a monitor by crew after suffering acute discomfort.
He had been in Las Vegas with his wife to cheer his favourite rugby league team Warrington Wolves against Wigan Warriors.
It was agreed to divert the Heathrow-bound flight to St John’s International Airport so Pearce could receive immediate medical attention.
