Syrian FA sends Dahoud home early due to issues with agent

The Syrian FA confirmed former German international Mahmoud Dahoud’s departure from its national team camp on Tuesday afternoon. Whether the 28-year-old has any future playing representing the country of his birth remains uncertain after what the SFA called “demands” from Dahoud’s agent.

German footballer Mahmoud Dahoud’s “project of the heart” in representing his heritage country of Syria may have come to a most unfortunate premature conclusion. On Tuesday, the Syrian FA confirmed the Dahoud had been released from the training camp of trainer Hector Cuper. A statement released by the SFA seems to suggest that the separation wasn’t very cordial.

“We were unable to fulfill his demands sent to us by his agent,” the statement read, “These [demands] will have an impact on our national team.”

Neither Dahoud nor his agent have commented on the departure yet. Dahoud recently returned to German football in the form of a loan spell with VfB Stuttgart. The former BVB professional and twice-capped German international has made just seven short relief appearances since joining the VfB on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
