Abraham suffered the serious knee injury in Roma’s penultimate game of the 2022/23 season against Spezia.

The former Chelsea striker landed awkwardly on his left leg just 17 minutes after he came off the bench, and was taken off the field on the back of a medical cart.

Footage on Saturday showed Abraham involved in some running drills with the rest of the available first team players, however this does not mean he will not be back soon.

Abraham’s injury ruled him out for the most of 2023 and he is tipped for a potential return at the end of January, or possibly even mid-February.

Though initially he was ruled out for a period of three to four months, it soon became clear that Abraham required surgery and faced an even longer spell on the sidelines.

The injury also scuppered Roma’s transfer plans as the England international was linked with move away from the Stadio Olimpico that would free up both funds and space in the squad.

Premier League side Aston Villa had reportedly agreed to buy Abraham for £26m before his injury made the deal collapse.

Abraham spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa Park, and became the first Villa player to score 25 goals in a season since Andy Gray in 1977.

He finished the season with 26 goals in 40 appearances and helped Villa get promoted back to the Premier League.

The striker has had a mixed experience in Rome, but has still managed to bag himself 36 goals and 12 assists in 107 appearances for the club.
