The Super League admits that it needs UEFA's 'OK' to move on with the project

The Super League is a controversial football competition project that shook the sports world with its proposed breakaway.

Currently facing a pivotal moment as its CEO, Bernd Reichart, has stressed that it’s necessary to receive UEFA’s approval for its continuation.

Reichart, the CEO of A22 Sports Management, clarified that adherence to legal procedures and compliance with European Union laws are paramount.

“We will always follow the procedure,” he told El Pais.

“We are bound by European Union laws… we will strictly comply with that.

The legal landscape adds another layer of complexity to the Super League saga.

Reichart indicated that UEFA had requested the court to annul the regulations, a move contested as falling within the jurisdiction of the Spanish courts rather than the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), as reported by ‘Iusport’.

Its potential revival, though still facing significant hurdles, carries financial implications, with a projected 55 percent reduction in revenues for some clubs.

Notably, Real Madrid and Barcelona are expected to maintain and even surpass their financial standing.

The TV rights

Reichart also shed light on the broadcasting aspect, suggesting that matches could be accessible for free through a streaming platform.

However, uncertainties linger, particularly regarding the contribution of TV revenue, initially projected to constitute 20 percent of club income from a substantial four billion euros.
